![]() ![]() ![]() If your mixes don't sound how you want them to sound, fix the mixes - don't expect to be able to work magic via mastering. check your mid and side components - use the free Brainworx Solo if you find yourself wanting to use mid/side to enhance stereo width, go back to the mix and widen it there the need for a multiband means there is a problem with your mix. if you think you need to use a multiband compressor or dynamic eq, don't do it parallel compression and eq balancing will get you into loud territory with less detriment - that would be the point at which you start "limiting for loudness" *if you want *loudness do not just slam a limiter* don't adjust monitor level except to check things specifically level-match references to your mixes with an rms meter and then fine-tune by ear before you start I recommend checking out the PSP Mastercomp, Sonoris Parallel EQ, Brainworx Digital V2, Molot compressor. If you make sure your timing is right, you could do all the mastering with trial plug-ins. Ooo trust me, that is step one down the road to ensuring that your masters are not as good as professional masters. ![]()
